Vessel board
The agency tracked every port call on a magnetic whiteboard in the office. We replaced it with a screen that shows the same thing and keeps itself current: which vessel is where, when it arrives, when it leaves, and what still needs doing. The wall screen is the open view, for visitors and for the people in the office who are not working the calls. The browser version is the working one, with the tasks and the history behind it.
The challenge
The agency ran their day off a magnetic whiteboard. Which ship is at which berth, when it arrives, when it leaves, what still needs arranging. It worked, and that was the problem, because anything replacing it had to be at least as quick as a magnet and a marker. Departure times also move constantly, since a captain can extend or cut a stay short in agreement with the harbour master.

How we built it
The board on the wall
A kiosk screen showing every vessel with arrival, departure, berth and status. It is there for the people not working the calls themselves, so visitors in the office and anyone in finance can see where a ship is without asking. No keyboard, no mouse, and it comes back on its own after the power goes.
The same board in a browser
The overview as a table from anywhere, a map of which ship is lying where across the ports they work, and vessel management with tasks to tick off. History is kept and can be exported.
